This is inspired by an old Chinese folktale I heard when I was a child. It is said a young maiden is sacrificed to the river god every year, in exchange for better crops and frequent rain to nourish the plants. The young maidens, after marring to the River god, would never see their family ever again.

.....Except my maiden isn't that young looking ;D. I found out the older I get, the characters I draw grows older with me orz. I also deleted a few things from the picture, the candles floating on paper boats. I took them out because they are more appropriate for sending the dead, not sending of a bride ^^'. She is crying in this pic as well, but resizing sucks and apparently you can't see it anymore. The Red clothing (not white clothing) is used because red is a characteristic marriage symbol in Ancient Chinese marriages. the bride and gloom both wear red. It's a good luck thing I guess.

I also tried to use perspective (the hand part?), but that didn't turn out that well, ah well, there is next time.
And on top of that, I wanted to work on a piece completely in SAI because the art file so very humongous, and I am sure photoshop would die handling something so fat.

O, and Merry Christmas ^^' I couldn't make up a better Xmas pic indeed, and this pic's lineart was drawn way back who knows when... due to university blocks, I just took it out and coloured a few days ago orz.

The colors are just lovely in this. Do you have a link to the story? I'd love to read about it. ^^

It's lovely how you used the red and everything connected to the ancient chinese cutlture but because of the clothing style... it doesn't look chinese anymore.. you've made it look japanese .__.
I hope your not offended but it would be better if you chose proper ancient chinese wedding clothes. But apart from that it is lovely.
