Artist's Comments
Background:
Anderson is perhaps one of my favorite story writer of all time. His stories have a magical touch and beauty to them, yet, there is this sense of haunting and sad feelings coming from them. As a child way back, I always get excited when it's story time, but I lone for, yet fearful of the stories of Anderson (it is a mix feeling). I sometimes read his stories over and over, somehow wishing the ending would turn out to be a "happily ever after". even if I know the truth...the happy ending that could never be. (well there are some happy ending ones too ;D). That said, I am talking about The Little Mermaid (no, not the disney crap, I mean the original...), A Little Girl Who Sells Match, The Flying Trunk, etc. The picture (HURRAY FOR LONG WEEKEND SO I GOT TO CG T_T) and so I am inspired to do it during my long weekend off university, because of my sudden urge of inspiration after remembering all the Anderson's stories, I pulled out my work from august, and finished it. As you can see, I lost my CG skills quite a bit. The moon is a paint over I did to a moon image I found on my school's Earth Science website, I think it's via NASA, I am not sure, please don't sue me NASA >.<. well, I still painted over the moon, it doesn't even look like the original photo anymore... >>Sorry if the colors look off, I painted it with my laptop >>That said, painted in SAI and photoshop, say, 20/80 ^^' |

As for Anderson I do find I like his renditions better than Grimm...though the brother's Grimm have some wonderful stories too. I have a HUGE book of Anderson tales I love to pieces. Probably the fattest book I've ever read cover to cover
